Ember Island Airwaves: Episode 1

With Season 4 of Game of Thrones all wrapped up, J and I have turned our attention to an old favorite: The Legend of Korra. Korra is a sequel series to Avatar: The Last Airbender, a show that deservedly won numerous awards (including a Primetime Emmy) during its 2005-2008 run. As a follow-up to that legacy, The Legend of Korra has likewise met with mostly positive reviews among critics and fans.

In the first edition of “Ember Island Airwaves,” J and I begin with how we were introduced the Avatar universe as kids. We then move on to our experiences with the three Books of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Finally, we jump into The Legend of Korra Books One and Two and reflect on what worked, what didn’t, and where the show can go from here.

At 42:20, we begin to talk about the season premiere of Book Three: Change. Nickelodeon decided to release three episodes at once following a recent leak. J and I discuss “A Breath of Fresh Air,” “Rebirth,” and “The Earth Queen,” and then speculate about the future of the franchise. Please note that there are spoilers in this podcast up through Book Three, Episode Three of The Legend of Korra.

For reference, the panel of fantasy authors who talk about Avatar we mention in the podcast can be found here. Please enjoy the podcast online, or download this episode directly.
