The Legend of Korra returns for its fourth and final season. The premiere, titled “After All These Years,” takes place long after the finale of Book 3: Change. Republic City is in the midst of a revamp, new power player Kuvira looks to be shaking things up and Team Avatar is scattered around the world. Yet one question remains, haunting each of these threads: where is the Avatar?

The premiere gets off to a rollicking start. J and I discuss how Prince Wu continues the uninspiring and goofy legacy of Earth Kingdom royalty, as well as where the airbenders are today given their role as roving peacekeepers. We also look at how The Legend of Korra continues to play with the most potent political ideologies of the 21st century as it introduces its primary antagonist. Finally, we address Korra herself, who seems stuck in a cycle of self-flagellation over her actions for the past three seasons.

Note that this podcast will contain spoilers up through the Book 4: Balance premiere. As always, you can subscribe to Ember Island Airwaves using iTunes. Alternatively, you can listen to the episode online or download it here. Happy listening!

What do you think — is Kuvira behind the bandit attack on Yi’s goods? And will we see that Rocky montage as Korra reenters the game? Let us know in the comments!

And be sure to tune in next week as we delve into the ostensibly titled second episode, “The Forgotten Ones” “Korra Alone.”
