The sixth episode of this season of Game of Thrones didn’t quite manage to top the highs of last week. Still, a healthy dose of reveals managed to keep “Blood of My Blood” afloat. My complaints about editing aside, this was hardly the worst episode of the season and maintains the much higher quality standard we’ve come to expect this year.
We continue to part ways with George R.R. Martin’s book series this week. In particular, getting Arya (Maisie Williams) away from the House of Black and White marks an unexpected departure from the novels. Meanwhile, though Sam (John Bradley-West) and Gilly’s (Hannah Murray) diversion at Horn Hill is novel for the series, it doesn’t add much to either character’s arc.
As we conclude, we discuss the recent announcement of a shorter Season 7 as well as a looming question about Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner).

Next week, J and I will discuss Season 6 Episode 7, “The Broken Man” – an episode which seems to directly refer to a certain character’s from the books. Remember, what is dead may never die.
