Welcome to the first episode of “High Concept on the Down Low,” a podcast that focuses on the modern Hollywood scene. We will explore everything from big-name directors to composers. If it’s happening in Hollywood, we’ll talk about it.
Everyone is familiar with Steven Spielberg and his numerous films. Yet people might not be aware of how he got started. For the premiere episode of “High Concept,” it’s all about Steven Spielberg’s beginnings. I discuss everything from his childhood to his first interaction with a movie camera. Like many young aspiring filmmakers today, it all began when Spielberg turned a summer vacation into a job opportunity.
Of course, Spielberg isn’t the only reason to listen. Tune in for a breakdown on how Hollywood changed during the 1960s and 70s, as well as the films that necessitated these changes. Finally, I cover Jaws and everything Spielberg and Universal Studios had to endure in order to make that film.
If you’re interested in learning more about Steven Spielberg outside of this podcast, check out Steven Awalt’s Steven Spielberg and Duel, Citizen Spielberg by Lester Friedman, Joseph McBride’s Steven Spielberg: A Biography and Easy Riders, Raging Bulls by Peter Biskind.
