If “A Lie Agreed Upon, Part 1” is the mountain of conflict, “Part 2” is the valley. The episode plays like a series of deflations. As Bullock (Timothy Olyphant) slowly makes his way across camp to retrieve his weapon and badge from the Gem, he’s waylaid by friends and supporters who do what they can to break the tension and spare any more bloodshed. And then, at once again on the thoroughfare, Al and

The episode also highlights many of the characters who found themselves sidelined last episode. Doc Cochran (Brad Dourif), Charlie Utter (Dayton Callie), Merrick (Jeffrey Jones), Jane (Robin Weigert) and Trixie (Paula Malcomson) all feature here, each re-establishing their roles in Deadwood’s odd social structure. “A Lie Agreed Upon, Part 2” certainly feels like the other half of the premiere — the B side, if you will — a feeling only accentuated by the fact that the narrative takes place over the course of a day.

We’d also like to thank regular listener (and seemingly endless font of Deadwood knowledge) Felt Pelt, who provided us with this interesting tidbit about last week’s episode: “The saga of Bummer Dan and Slippery Dan (originally Sam) comes from Estelline Bennett’s memoir of growing up in Deadwood as a child.” No kidding! Here’s a direct link to the book in question, Old Deadwood Days.

And as a small update to last week’s post, we’ve just learned that the Deadwood movie is actually set to release this spring (not fall). It’s comin’, folks!
