Ben Affleck’s Batman v Superman suit and ride have been revealed. Zack Snyder posted the image to Twitter today.
Fans everywhere are breathing a sigh of relief. Kevin Smith’s giddy fanboy response from a few months back makes a lot more sense now. Now that we can see the design in full, it appears that the suit is based almost entirely off of Frank Miller’s seminal The Dark Knight Returns graphic novel. That suit has seen several different iterations, from video games to the animated adaptation of Miller’s book. However, this is the first time we’re seeing it in live-action on the big screen, and it looks pretty close to the comics. Perhaps we’ll get a color version sometime in the future so we can see if the grey and blue is back, too. Moreover, this reveal seems to corroborate older claims that Snyder will be using two different suits for the film. If this one so closely resembles Batman’s regular suit from Returns, perhaps we’ll see a fully mechanized version of the Bats as he fights Superman?
Aside from the look of Wonder Woman, Cyborg, and the other secondary villains and characters in BvS, it remains to be seen whether Superman will don a similarly classic look for Snyder’s film. The Batmobile looks pretty fantastic, too. It’s got a sleek, almost drag-racer type look to it without seeming totally impractical. To me, it seems like a good balance of the previous cinematic takes on the Caped Crusader’s infamous vehicle while still offering something new.
But perhaps the best news of all is that Affleck really looks the part. Just look at that chin.
So what do you think of the suit? The Batmobile? Do they work for you?
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters May 6, 2016.
